| Origin Story

How can we understand and know each other better?

Seeing a need for cultural heritage understanding and land preservation across industry, we have made it our mission to establish better approaches for the future.

In the Beginning

Nyiyaparli and Nyamal man, Bradley Hall, grew up in a small community surrounded by family on the Coongan River. He was raised practising traditional lore and customs with his Old People.

Early in his career, Bradley found himself working for mining companies on Nyiyaparli country.

Given that mining had been in his family’s “backyard” for decades, he was surprised to discover how little the people working on Nyiyaparli country knew about his people, their culture and their connections to the land.

Bradley knew that the people in his community could positively contribute to the mining industry, and that an equal share of opportunities for economic and social development in the Pilbara would see his family generate solid futures.

Establishing a foundation

Bradley was honoured to be asked to join his Old People in their 19-year journey for recognition of Native Title, and he held important roles in the development of the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation.

During this time he saw an opportunity to start his own family business, Coongan, in the hope of bringing together his community and the companies working on Nyiyaparli country, so the benefits could be more equally shared among the Traditional Owners. Bradley’s leadership includes a vision to bring community and industry together through cultural education and sustainable land use practices for community wellbeing.

Since it’s inception in 2012, Coongan has grown into a renowned entity with a talented team. We continue to innovate thoughtful ways of working for Nyiyaparli people on their country, and we are a trusted partner of the mining companies working on Nyiyaparli country.

Today, Bradley is a proud father to six children, who all hope to continue the legacy of Coongan into the future.

When we work together, everybody benefits together.

A percentage from every Coongan project is put directly towards our “Giving Back To Community” program.
